Fall Family & Friends Bridal Shower

Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of hosting a Fall Family & Friends Bridal Shower at our home for my hubby’s cousin from Texas and her fiance… It was more like a Reunion with folks travelling from nearby states and Manhattan, KS, to Kansas City to celebrate!

I wanted to share all the fun we had preparing for it and the beyond beautiful Midwestern Autumn Day we were blessed to have to enjoy! [Thanks, Mother Nature!] With my crazy-busy work schedule, I could not have pulled together everything without the help of my husband, in-laws, a close family friend of the bride-to-be, and family who arrived early in the day to help get everything set and organized!

The invitation is a great way to help guests get a sneak peek into what the upcoming party will be like! I had so much fun getting to pull together this rustic, casual, fall invite to share with the guests…it, also, had a special request: plaid and denim attire! It was so fun to see most everyone participate in the ‘theme’ by wearing their comfiest plaid and denim shirt, scarf, dress, or whatever. It, also, made group pics more coordinated that usual…

Fortunately, Fall is one of my favorite seasons so, it didn’t take much more than unloading a couple of storage totes full of fall decor to spruce up the house! Additionally, the hubs and I made our annual trip down to Powell Pumpkin Patch to nab a load of pumpkins to scatter on our stoop…nothing is more beautiful than nature!

We scattered the couples’ photos around the gathering areas…

As far as flowers, I bought a couple of copper mugs that I though would make great little vases. And…my favorite flower shop just so happens to be right around the corner from my house. So, my mother-in-law and I stopped in to grab a bundle of stems to create a couple of simple centerpieces. My mother-in-law is soo talented at putting together flower arrangements! She did such an amazing job utilizing the stems from the shop and filler from my garden. Aren’t they beautiful?!

We used a large white pumpkin as the Guest Book…

We wanted to embrace the wonderful fall weather we’ve been enjoying in Kansas City — and, luckily, Mother Nature cooperated! So, most of the festivities were outside. We had several yard games available including Giant Jenga, Connect Four, and Yard Yahtzee [the Yahtzee dice were made by our good friend _tall_anthony; check his work out on Instagram].

We served a slew of seasonal Oktoberfest bottled beers from large galvanized metal tubs filled with ice along with Moscow Mules in mason jars, and red and white wine!

My mother-in-law made a big ‘ol batch of Homemade Chex Mix and Puppy Chow for guests to grab before gifts were opened.

Main Course
Here’s the menu we served for dinner:

Honeycrisp Apple Salad
Grilled Flank Steak with Chimichurri Sauce
Roasted Red Potatoes with Garlic Aioli
IBIS Bakery Cheese Slipper

My husband and father-in-law grilled the steak to perfection and the salad and potatoes turned out fantastic!

My mother-in-law made some really tasty sweets to finish the meal including her family’s famous Canadian Tarts and Magic Bars. She, also, purchased some delicious and beautiful cakes from a local restaurant in MHK, Bourbon & Baker. (Unfortunately, I did not get a good photo of the entire dessert table. I’m still learning…)

While most of the guests needed to get on the road after dinner, a few people remained who would be staying in KC for the night. Sooo…we started a fire in the fire pit and roasted marshmallows for s’mores! As the night wound on, we noshed on a cheese platter and leftovers from dinner. Sitting around a fire pit with dear friends and family is one of my very favorite activities!

I must say that this was one of the funnest parties that I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of! We had one of the cutest couples to celebrate, wonderful help, gracious guests, and a perfect Autumn day to enjoy…what’s better than that?!

There’s always some reason to celebrate…and I can’t think of a better reason than LOVE. Thank you to everyone that helped make the day special for these two!
